ALPHA CHI OMEGA AT UT TYLER
KAPPA MU CHAPTER

AXO Lyre
Kappa Mu is only one out of 134 chapters of Alpha Chi Omega. Although the national sorority was founded in 1885, Kappa Mu began only five years ago in April of 2006, at the very start of greek life on our campus at The University of Texas at Tyler. Now, our sisters can be seen wearing "AXO" letters all over campus, in every area of study and involved in many different student organizations along with our own. We are a service based sorority with a main focus on academics. We strive to provide our members with leadership, friendship, learning and service.

We have a calendar full of fun and exciting events throughout the year! Along with every UT Tyler sponsored campus event, you will see Alpha Chi Omega at all other sorority and fraternity events. We host our own philanthropy events in both the spring and fall semesters. In order to raise awareness and donations for victims of domestic violence, we host an annual Mr. Alpha Chi Pageant in which men from our campus compete for the honor of Mr. Alpha Chi. Last year, we raised over $1300.00 at this single event! Plus, we had so much fun as a chapter planning and promoting our event. We also team with the local non-profit East Texas Crisis Center in hosting an annual Candlelight vigil simply to raise awarness of victims of domestic violence. Aside from philanthropy, we can't forget about our mixers, date parties, formals, semi-formals, pajama partys, sisterhood retreats, bid day celebrations with our newest sisters, and so much more!

Our chapter excels in academic responsibility as well. Kappa Mu has academic programs to promote library study time each month and awards members for academic success and achievement. Many of our sisters have been seen on the Dean's List and President's Honor Roll. Members also receive extra help and encouragement through chapter programming when needed. We work constantly to promote Greek life in the eyes of the faculty and adminstration. This year, we have implemented Muffin Mondays, a day in which we give muffins to professors on campus, and we plan to host our second annual Alpha Chi Omega Scholarship Banquet in the fall.
